Open Investigations and Nationwide Complaint Intake Tests

Complaint forms are required in all US police departments in every state. The forms are for the purpose of documenting complaints of police misconduct registered by the public. Complaint forms are not the personal property of the police officer assigned to investigate the complaint nor is it the personal property of the police department. We recently documented an example of an officer abusing his authority with the purpose of controlling access to complaint forms. The officer uses an unidentified policy allowing him to restrict access to complaint forms. His conduct was improper and we are reporting a complaint to the sheriff. Always request a complaint form if you are attempting to report a complaint of police misconduct.
