Page 4 of 4 6. Keep up the good work!Irish, UnregisteredStumbled across your site by accident, its amazing the things cops in the U.S get away with. I live in Ireland and here cops are unarmed, no guns or tazers (detectives can carry weapons) All I can say is thank god we don't have that type of macho cop over here. By the way, great site....is so important to stand up againest injustice. 5. Officer who 'flipped off' pickets gets reprimandcopwatcher, UnregisteredThe Mesa police sergeant who made an obscene gesture at a group of pro-immigration pickets last month was given a written reprimand, must attend a First Amendment training session, and must talk to the department's patrol shifts about what he learned in the session, according to an Internal Affairs report released Tuesday. Sgt. Mike Doherty was in uniform driving a police truck Sept. 5 when he passed about 30 members of Immigrants Without Borders, an advocacy group, as they took part in a weeklong business boycott near Alma School Road and Main Street. Protesters said he passed them twice and "flipped off" the crowd both times between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Doherty admitted making the gestures but both sides disagree on how blatant it was. Witnesses said he made a fist and extended his middle finger against the window and began laughing. When the truck passed by the demonstrators a second time, he reached across the cab and made the same motion, pressing his middle finger up against the passenger side window, according to their accounts.
Other witnesses said Doherty used his middle finger while looking in their direction but made it seem that he was trying to itch his nose or fix his glasses.
